When Vertica database is not running on the cluster and a user tries to connect to the database using vsql following message is issued.
sudhakar@sudhakar-Latitude-E6420:~$ sudo su - dbadmin [sudo] password for sudhakar: dbadmin@sudhakar-Latitude-E6420:~$ vsql vsql: could not connect to server: Connection refused Is the server running on host "???" and accepting TCP/IP connections on port 5433?
We can use admintools to start the database
Naviagting through the menu once the DB is selected following log is displayed on STDOUT and database starts.

… and database is accessible.
