Starting Vertica 7.1 database

When Vertica database is not running on the cluster and a user tries to connect to the database using vsql following message is issued.

sudhakar@sudhakar-Latitude-E6420:~$ sudo su - dbadmin
[sudo] password for sudhakar:
dbadmin@sudhakar-Latitude-E6420:~$ vsql
vsql: could not connect to server: Connection refused
Is the server running on host "???" and accepting
TCP/IP connections on port 5433?

We can use admintools to start the database

dbadmin@sudhakar-Latitude-E6420:~$ admintools

Naviagting through the menu once the DB is selected following log is displayed on STDOUT and database starts.

*** Starting database: tspdb ***
Starting nodes:
v_tspdb_node0001 (127.0.0.1)

Starting Vertica on all nodes. Please wait, databases with large catalogs may take a while to initialize.

Node Status: v_tspdb_node0001: (INITIALIZING)
Node Status: v_tspdb_node0001: (INITIALIZING)
Node Status: v_tspdb_node0001: (UP)

… and database is accessible.

dbadmin@sudhakar-Latitude-E6420:~$ vsql
Welcome to vsql, the Vertica Analytic Database interactive terminal.

Type: \h or \? for help with vsql commands
\g or terminate with semicolon to execute query
\q to quit

dbadmin=>
